...Remember...

When I started to take pictures, it was because there were so many things that I never wanted to forget- from beautiful sunsets to beautiful people. I believe this is why we all have photographs. We want to remember things; days, months, years, and even lifetimes later.

Lately I have been noticing how important each moment is. People grow and change so quickly, vacations end, and the sunset will fade. But I love being able to capture those moments so they will last for many years to come. I can look back on pictures from when I was little and I remember things that I probably wouldn't have otherwise. We all have people we miss, but looking into those photographs helps me to feel that they are still here with me. Wedding photography is important to many people because they realize that it is a one time event. But so is every other moment in our lives. We don't get a chance to relive a single moment. When I was in high school, my family and I went to Disneyland almost every week. I have very few pictures from those times. We went so often that it wasn't "special." But looking back on it now, I wish I had appreciated that opportunity I had to spend with my family while it was there. I wish I had recorded more memories of us.

What do you want to Remember?

Weddings!

Posted: June 2009

This weekend a really good friend of mine is getting married in Southern California. She has hired a photographer for the wedding, but has asked me to also take some pictures during the reception. I'm really excited to get a bit more experience in wedding photography. I love the magic; all the details that go into making it a perfect day. Those are the things that can be so easily overlooked, but the bride spends hours working on! How beautiful it is, to be able to capture Love in an image. The looks they give each other, and those moments when they don't realize that someone else is watching them in their own private moments. Those are the images that I love: the ones that just take your breath away and draw you into the Love they are sharing.

Moving to Utah!

Posted: May 2009

I just wanted to give an update and let everyone know that I will be relocating to Utah in the Orem/Provo area at the beginning of July.  I've loved being in California. There is so much beauty everywhere you look, but it will be nice to be able to experience all that Utah has to offer. I hope to be able to show everyone some amazing new work within the first few weeks of being there.

Until July, I'm still scheduling portrait shoots in Southern California, but I'm also accepting reservations for portrait sessions in Salt Lake and Utah counties. If you want to schedule something, send me a message through my contact page.  I also offer digital restoration and retouching. Or visit my store to view some photos that are available for print purchases.

Welcome!

Welcome to LaurenSilcockPhotography.com and to my blog! I'm really excited to be able to share with you about my current projects, as well as let you in on some of my tips for being in pictures and even taking pictures.

When I was about 10 years old, I looked out my bedroom window and saw a beautiful sunset. I wanted to capture what I was looking at so I could see it over and over again. The way the colors blended together, it was like someone had splashed paint in all my favorite colors across the sky. So I decided that I would draw it, exactly as I saw it, and then I would be able to see it as often as I wanted. It didn't take me long to realize that drawing wasn't one of my strongest talents... So I started taking pictures.

The first time I felt like a real photographer was during a family trip to Yellowstone. I took rolls and rolls of film on the trip and used them all. And although I don't know what happened to most of those images, I still have the pictures that came from one of those rolls. I loved those pictures. I carried them around with me everywhere so I could show people all the "pretty things" that I saw. I have been taking pictures ever since.

I've had a bit more experience now, and learned a great deal about what makes a photo beautiful. I still love to take pictures of landscapes and flowers, but I have expanded my interest to portraits of people. I now also love making people look amazing! I hope you enjoy visiting my website! Please always feel free to contact me with any questions you may have. Remember to always see the beauty in everything: Every mountain, every flower, every person.
